Clock’s A-Ticking to Annual Conference
By Kelley Duron, CSM and MEd
Just 17 days until our 2019 PMI Portland Chapter Annual Conference! Have you reserved your spot yet?
Our 18th annual event is the culmination of months of work by a cadre of 50+ volunteers. The day begins bright and early: breakfast with more than 300 of your closest (or soon-to-be closest) project management colleagues, followed by the Opening Keynote from Kevin D. Monroe who will jumpstart your Super Powers for the day.
Conference attendees will also have an opportunity to visit with our Chapter Sponsors whose services will be on display all day in the ballroom. Check out what they have to offer -- their sponsorship helps our chapter offer programs such as the AC.
Breakout sessions start at 9:45 a.m., and participants have 16 to choose from in four program tracks: Leadership, Strategy, Program and Portfolio Management, and Tools and Techniques. You can stick with one track all day or mix and match. It’s best to plan the workshops you want to attend before you arrive so you can grab a seat in your desired session before it’s full.
Lunch packs plenty of time to network with colleagues, morning speakers and sponsors. We’ll meet back in the ballroom to end our exceptional day of professional development with Marli Williams’ high-energy Closing Keynote, “Lead the Way: Leadership Skills, Inspiration and Motivation.”
You’ll leave the Annual Conference pleasantly tired but ready to rock all the great tips you’ve learned. Don’t miss it. Use discount code 'ac2019nl' to register by Saturday, Sept. 6, to get $50 off regular prices. Late fee of $100 begins on Sept. 7.
Mobile App Adds Info Galore - and Prizes Too!
As project management pros, you know how important quick, easy communication is to effectively running projects. Our Annual Conference is no different and this year, we’ve redesigned our mobile app to ease your way through the day’s events. Our 2019 PMI Portland Annual Conference application is now available for download through both the Apple App and Google Play stores. Our application has a dynamic Event Guide, live notifications, plus games, raffles, and a host of prizes.
When you participate in our new Social Wall (#PMIPDX2019) before and during the event, you’ll earn points toward prizes, too! Once registered, you will receive a download link and installation instructions via email (current registrants were sent the link via email yesterday; be sure to check your in-box or spam!). Or, simply access the app via the App and Play stores, searching for PMI Portland to get started. What are you waiting for? Get yourself registered and download that app today! **To be eligible for prizes, you must log in to the app and play the Game or answer our surveys.
Skip the Line, Print Your AC Badge at Home
For the first time, PMI Portland Chapter is offering registrants the opportunity to print your conference badge from the comfort of home. Those registered by September 17 will receive an email listing steps to take to print their name tag. Bring it along on September 20 and all you’ll need to do is grab a “wallet” lanyard and head to the ballroom. Don’t forget to get your badge scanned at each session.
Panels Focus on Next Steps for PM Professionals
Though open to any attendee, this year’s conference will feature two panel discussions focused on more experienced project managers who would like to move into higher-level roles. Jeff Oltmann, a principal consultant at Synergy Professional Services and instructor of project and portfolio management through OHSU’s Master’s program, will serve as moderator. Each session features experienced PMs who have reached higher levels within the profession to share their experiences in a Q&A setting.
