Chapter Meeting – Managing Challenging Stakeholders

Managing stakeholders is a critical component of successful project and organizational leadership—especially when some stakeholders prove difficult to engage or align. This presentation explores practical strategies for identifying, understanding, and effectively managing challenging stakeholders. Participants will learn how to analyze stakeholder behavior, address conflict constructively, and adapt communication to different personality types and power dynamics. Through real-world examples, interactive discussions, and actionable frameworks, attendees will gain the tools and confidence needed to turn resistance into collaboration and maintain project momentum in the face of stakeholder challenges.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify different types of challenging stakeholders and understand the root causes of  difficult behaviors.
2. Analyze stakeholder interests, influence, and communication styles using common stakeholder mapping tools (e.g., Power/Interest Grid).
3. Apply proven communication and negotiation techniques to effectively engage and  influence challenging stakeholders.
4. Develop strategies to build trust, manage expectations, and resolve conflicts proactively.
5. Create a stakeholder management action plan tailored to a specific project or scenario.
