PRESIDENT'S CORNER |

Chapter President Rochelle Petty, MBA, PMP, SPHR
Happy April members! As we enter the second quarter of the year, Spring has officially sprung, and we have stepped into National Autism Awareness month. As business leaders we leverage our teams effectively, develop their strengths and work to improve on “weak” areas. While project management is not a field that all persons with autism can flourish in, it’s worth noting that there are many with the skills to do the job effectively. Project Management is a field which requires both good time management and meticulous attention to detail. This career also often involves high-level thinking and the ability to see both detail and the big picture at the same time. These are all qualities that some people with Asperger's syndrome possess in abundance. These strengths can come with limitations, so in addition to recognizing what a teammate with autism can bring to the table, let’s also consider how we can better support them and ensure project success. Individuals with Asperger’s syndrome tend to struggle with social situations, such as extensive meetings and people-facing activities. Being open to less face to face or group settings by leveraging alternative collaboration tools for communication can be a great help. As business professionals, we should always seek ways to collaborate with our teammates and find creative ways to accomplish goals. This is one more way we can proactively and consciously support our peers. Register now for our Virtual Spring Conference on Friday, May 6th! I look forward to connecting with each of you. The call for speakers has closed and we will be announcing the agenda soon. If you’d like to volunteer your time to support the conference or the chapter in general, please contact Penelope Luedtke at vp_membership@pmi-portland.org. It would be an honor to have you contribute to the Chapter’s success. Welcome and Thank You to all the members that have joined or renewed your membership this month. The Portland Chapter thrives on your support and we are grateful that you have decided to trust us for another year. Don’t forget to register and enjoy the events that our volunteer team have put together! Best,

Volunteer of the Month: Dominique Bradley
By Membership Selection Committee
Dominique Bradley embodies the best of PMI Portland volunteers: belief in the good that project management can bring to the world and passion for delivering what the members need to meet the profession's challenges. She began her volunteer journey with PMI Portland in February of 2020, drawn to this amazing, diverse community of project management professionals. Her advice for those wondering if they should volunteer with PMI Portland is a resounding “Yes.” She asserts there is no better time to volunteer than right now, when we are all searching for community and connection. As Assistant VP of Outreach she has planned, coordinated, and produced 6 virtual outreach ZOOM events for the PMI Portland chapter, creating over 700 high-quality community interactions with over 125 non-PMI member engagements. Her administrative, marketing and technical prowess enabled PMI Portland to successfully deliver the first ever virtual chapter meeting to its members. Dominique is a tireless, dedicated professional committed to providing the greater Portland Project Management community with the highest quality professional development opportunities, social interactions and professional networking. She has the ability to keep a cool head under pressure and handle anything that comes her way. Her one ask of members is to provide feedback on events and programming. She takes the customer service aspect of her volunteer role seriously and reviews each survey. So, next time you are given the opportunity to provide feedback to PMI Portland, know that Dominique is listening! A Message from the Membership Selection Committee: |

RoundtableA roundtable is a meeting where Project Managers discuss issues they face on a daily basis. Roundtables are held throughout the Portland-Vancouver area and each meeting has its own personality. They usually follow a basic pattern but sometimes use a different format for ongoing discussions. The meetings always start with introductions and usually a solicitation for topics. Topics tabled from previous meetings, that are still current issues, are given priority. The topics are selected by attendees based on that roundtable’s rules and opened for discussion. Sometimes topics are prearranged, such as when preparation time for topic facilitation is needed. These meetings are worth 1 PDU to PMPs, and can be extremely valuable and fun. There is often a balance of junior and senior Project Managers from a variety of disciplines to provide an eclectic viewpoint. For details about a specific Roundtable meeting, see the URL below:
