Chapter President Penelope Luedtke, PMP
You remember when you were a kid and you would think of the furthest date you could imagine? I specifically remember thinking about the year 2020 when it was 1976. Since ‘76 was a big milestone year for the US, it seems appropriate that my child's mind would contemplate such a thing as THE FUTURE. So here we are, in my future all of a sudden - how did that happen so fast? Anyone else feel the same way?
Lean Moves Continuous Improvement Forward
By Julie Easterly, PMP
Lean: (adj.) thin and fit; containing little or no fat
Rigorous process thinking has been around for more than 500 years, yet plenty of project management professionals and their organizations are not familiar with some common continuous improvement process tools used today. Since PMI Portland is focusing on Lean methodologies at our January Chapter meeting, we’re diving into the topic a bit more.

Education Session: Lean: Back to the Basics
Learn the latest on Lean principles and develop a culture of Lean thinking for continuous improvement. The educational session features Maria Grzanka, a continuous improvement instructor, facilitator, and coach with 20 years’ experience practicing Lean, primarily focused on business processes. This presentation demonstrates value stream mapping and the 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) as examples to understand the underlying principles.
Keynote Session: Lean in The Living Organization®
The keynote session features both Maria Grzanka and Norman Wolfe. Norman is the founder and CEO of Quantum Leaders. He is a leading voice in bringing about a transformation of the core paradigm of business. In this session, the focus is on The Living Organization® Framework. The framework uses a model of Activity, Relationship, and Context (ARC) to explain how results are achieved. The ARC Framework™ complements other tools and techniques and helps understand how to increase the effectiveness in achieving results.
