Chapter President Penelope Luedtke, PMPYou remember when you were a kid and you would think of the furthest date you could imagine? I specifically remember thinking about the year 2020 when it was 1976. Since ‘76 was a big milestone year for the US, it seems appropriate that my child's mind would contemplate such a thing as THE FUTURE. So here we are, in my future all of a sudden - how did that happen so fast? Anyone else feel the same way? |

Lean Moves Continuous Improvement ForwardBy Julie Easterly, PMP Lean: (adj.) thin and fit; containing little or no fat Rigorous process thinking has been around for more than 500 years, yet plenty of project management professionals and their organizations are not familiar with some common continuous improvement process tools used today. Chapter Meeting | January 21, 2020Education Session: Lean: Back to the Basics Learn the latest on Lean principles and develop a culture of Lean thinking for continuous improvement. The educational session features Maria Grzanka, a continuous improvement instructor, facilitator, and coach with 20 years’ experience practicing Lean, primarily focused on business processes. This presentation demonstrates value stream mapping and the 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) as examples to understand the underlying principles. Keynote Session: Lean in The Living Organization® The keynote session features both Maria Grzanka and Norman Wolfe. Norman is the founder and CEO of Quantum Leaders. He is a leading voice in bringing about a transformation of the core paradigm of business. In this session, the focus is on The Living Organization® Framework. The framework uses a model of Activity, Relationship, and Context (ARC) to explain how results are achieved. The ARC Framework™ complements other tools and techniques and helps understand how to increase the effectiveness in achieving results. Register by January 17, 2020, before the late fee kicks in! Certification CoursesSix-Week PMP/CAPM Exam Prep | January 18 - February 22, 2020 Students will receive a copy of the PMI PMBOK (6th) edition, a complete set of study materials from Velociteach, and access to online practice exams that simulate the exam environment. Career Fair and NetworkingPMI Portland Chapter is excited to host another round of networking on Thursday, February 27, from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at NWEA. We will have people on hand to help with your resume, elevator speeches, networking techniques, and LinkedIn profile. Guest Emilee Hannum will share her journey to becoming a project manager at Airbnb's Community Support PMO. She will focus on the importance of networking, and provide tips to incorporate into your own networking practice to help you find that next opportunity. Emilee has an MBA from Willamette University and is an agile and thorough project leader with comprehensive skills and experience leading projects for global companies.
