Project management methodologies work “on paper” and “in theory,” unfortunately, they generally fail once people are added to the mix. The focus on the psychology, art, and science of gathering business requirements is the major contributor to project success where success is defined as being on time, within scope, and at or below budget.

In the backcountry, your life depends upon your group’s knowledge, skills and ability to work together. Nowhere is teamwork more important! During the upcoming workshop, Alan Mallory will describe his experience summiting Everest and how project management methodologies were applied. Learn how to foster teamwork and trust with your project teams and how waterfall and agile methods can be integrated.
Experienced project leaders ready to become certified Project Management Professionals (PMP), and those looking to establish credibility in the application of project management processes as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), will both benefit from this course as they prepare for the Project Management Institute (PMI) certification examination.
This April, PMI Portland Chapter is providing two options to better serve your exam prep needs:
This 4-day boot camp presented by industry-leading project management expert and PMI Registered Education Provider Steve Norton, PMP, will prepare you to take the PMP or CAPM exam in a compressed time-frame.
This 7-week exam prep class spreads the learning out to allow processing at a slower pace. It is taught by PMI Portland's team of PMP certified instructors, who are experienced project managers from a variety of industries.

We are pleased to announce our facilitator for February is Sharon Richardson. Dr. Richardson holds a PhD in Business Strategy from the Sir John Cass School of Business at City University in London, England and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. A proven, results-driven leader with more than 20 years of multi-industry experience and an active entrepreneur, mentor, and investor in Oregon, Dr. Richardson brings with her a wealth of expertise. Her career has spanned six countries and four continents. Dr. Richardson will use the Strategy and Business Management category within the PMI Talent Triangle™ to frame her work with us. According to the Project Management Institute, “the ideal skill set -- the Talent Triangle -- is a combination of technical, leadership, and strategic and business management expertise.” Future facilitators will bring expertise in technical and leadership aspects of project management.
Share PM trends, challenges, and successes. Tap into new talent and ideas. Explore different PM career paths. Business and education come together for networking and knowledge – an evening of interesting and productive dialogue. We connect experts and practitioners with emerging project managers. There is often a balance of junior and senior Project Managers from a variety of disciplines to provide an eclectic viewpoint. It can be extremely valuable and fun – and it’s free!
These meetings are worth 1 PDU for PMI credential holders, and grow the knowledge bank of students and practitioners.
We'd love to have you join us. Please RSVP here so we can make sure our catering numbers are accurate. We look forward to seeing you!
P.S. There might be people in your network or organization doing project management work, or considering a career move into more project-based work. Please share this message as appropriate. There is a flyer attached suitable for use on bulletin boards. Thank you!
