Workshop - Persuading the Bear: How to Influence Without Authority

Workshop - Persuading the Bear: How to Influence Without Authority

When an employee is asked to take the lead on a project without the personal authority that comes from being part of the senior executive team, it can feel like they are trying to persuade a Grizzly Bear! Being able to effectively build enthusiasm, delegate tasks and deal with conflicting agendas – often with little or no reward for themselves – requires the skills to influence rather than the power of command.

In this practical and insightful presentation, the audience will learn best practices for leading and influencing without authority, giving them the skills they need to effectively persuade others, lead diverse teams, and get projects done on time.

Having once faced-down a 250 lb Grizzly Bear in Alaska combined with his 18 years of experience in human interaction in organizations such as Intel, Philips Healthcare, United Healthcare, DnB, Volvo, JPMorgan Chase, Citi, Unilever, and more, Michael knows what it’s like to persuade a powerful personality using wits alone. He is now committed to showing others how to lead diverse teams by using the skills of influence rather than the power of command.

Based on Michael’s bestseller : Project Influence and Leadership: Building Rapport in Teams:

I am writing to provide a professional reference for Michael Nir, whom I had a pleasure to meet and hear in Baltic Project Management Forum 2014, organized by PMI Lithuania Chapter. Michael gave a presentation on the topic: “Influence without authority – convincing the bear”. Michael would qualify for one of the most professional speakers I’ve ever encountered. His speech on the topic of authority and influence was presented in playful manner and certainly can be called a highlight of the day. Mr. Nir is an electrifying public speaker. His passion for the subject is infectious. In just 20 minutes, forum attendees gained a fresh perspective on the importance of influencing the stakeholders and were given useful tips on stakeholder management. His presentation was enriched with illuminating story, valuable statistics, surprising paradoxes and a refreshing dose of good humor. It is my pleasure to give Michael Nir our highest recommendation as a speaker. I am sure that Michael will deliver valuable information and analysis in an inspiring and entertaining man. - Kristina Packeviciute PMP, DXC/Vice President at PMI Lithuania

On several occasions I have hired Michael Nir as a trainer and speaker. Michael is definitely one of the Top 5% speakers I have worked with. He has a unique ability to clearly articulate real valuable insights, and to deliver them with passion and humor. If you get the chance, I strongly recommend you to work with Michael. You will certainly learn new insights, produce value, and have fun while doing so. - Jonas Denvall, Founder & Management Consultant at Arkatay Consulting AB
