Soft Skills Development Series led by Saad Ahmed, B. Sc., PMP

Join the PMI Portland Chapter for this informative learning series designed to help develop your emotional intelligence, manage your attitude and activate your listening. 

This series runs noon to 1:30pm each Friday for three weeks (8/14, 8/21 and 8/28). Listen to one hour presentation followed by Q&A time. Register once to gain acces to the whole three week series. Earn one leadership PDU per session (codes to be given out at the end of each session.) This series is presented at no cost.



Session 1, August 14th 12n - 1:30pm

Emotional Intelligence: How to Manage Emotions in Times of Crises

Having control over our emotions not only will help us become mentally stronger but it will improve our relationships, reduce our negative thoughts and effectively handle conflicts on a personal level and in the workplace. Controlling emotions is easier said than done, and requires practice, dedication and persistence.  Saad will share with you best practices and tips to manage your emotions in the time of crises.

Session 2, August 21st 12n - 1:30pm

Attitude is Everything, How to Stay Positive During Difficult Times

Change is inevitable. Saad will share best practices and tips to change your attitude and stay positive during difficult times by increasing positive energy and purposely decreasing your negative energy.

Learning objectives: 

  1. Understanding the definition of attitude
  2. Learn how a negative or positive attitude will affect your attitude
  3. Discover how to develop a positive attitude
  4. Understand the difference between negative and positive energy, and how to develop positive energy and positive attitude
  5. Learn how to stay positive during a difficult time


Session 3, August 28th 12n - 1:30pm

Active Listening - Are You Actually Listening?

Whether in social or work environments, you don’t just want to be heard, you want to be truly listened to. When somebody is listening to you, are they actually listening?  How you know that you are being listened to?

Active listening is a critical soft skill that builds strong relationships and can play an important role in helping you get ahead in your career. It is a skill that can be acquired and developed with a little patience and practice.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of Soft Skills
  2. Learn what is Active Listening and why it’s important
  3. Understand the benefits of Active Listening
  4. Take away tips on how to be a good listener

Presenter Bio

Saad Ahmed is Program Manager at the City of Calgary and brings more than 20 years’ experience in municipal government. Saad holds a Bachelor of Computer Science majoring in Information Systems and has been a Project Management Professional (PMP) and active member of PMP since 2006. Over the past 10 years, Saad has shared his knowledge and expertise by conducting workshops, webinars and presenting as a guest speaker in conferences in Canada, the U.S. and Turkey.

Saad is the founder and principal of Advanced Project Management Excellence Services Inc. which provides project management and leadership training services to Mount Royal University, S.A.I.T (School of Construction) and Red Deer College. Saad actively trains, mentors, and supports delivery project managers and business analysts in using project management tools and methodologies. Saad strongly promotes a culture of disciplined project management and leadership to delivery groups, industries and educational institutes.
