2019 PMI Portland Conference a Big Success!

Two dozen speakers and panelists, 50+ volunteers and nearly 370 attendees generated high marks for the PMI Portland Chapter 2019 Annual Conference on September 20, delivering on its promise of TIME well spent. The theme featured presentations highlighting Talent, Inspiration, Motivation and Emotional Intelligence while covering PMI’s required Talent Triangle for PDU achievement. Our tracks focused on Leadership, Strategy, Program and Portfolio Management, and Tools and Techniques.

This year’s event began with a Caped Crusader. Not Batman, but Kevin D. Monroe, our morning keynote speaker who challenged the crowd to identify their personal super power and put it to use in their lives and career.

Morning sessions kept the energy flowing as participants selected from Transitioning to Your Next PM Role to LEAN Six Sigma for Continuous Improvement; Welcome to the Jungle to Extracting the Benefits of Agile.

Lunch brought a fabulous opportunity for folks to network and visit out 2019-20 Chapter and AC sponsors who showed off products and services tied to best practices for the project management industry. The ballroom was buzzing with industry veterans and newer project managers sharing their excitement over the best nuggets they took away from initial sessions.

The afternoon drew more rave reviews with speakers such as Amber McMillan who spoke to a standing-room-only group about stakeholders and organizational politics, and the duo of Robin Geertz and Eric Uppiano demonstrated the power of data to affect change.

Though tired from a packed day, participants received a final bolt of energy and empowerment as closing keynote speaker, Marli Williams, showed us how to “Lead the Way” using skills we already possess to inspire and motivate our teams to project success.

Thanks to Our Volunteers, Speakers and Sponsors

A big Thank You to our conference speakers. Your insights provided our participants with valuable tools to increase their effectiveness in their profession. The speakers fluidly navigated a complex schedule with good cheer and flexibility.

Meanwhile, our 2019 Annual Conference would not have happened so seamlessly without its tireless leader, Sandra Koelle, and a dedicated group of volunteers who toiled through the summer on the finest of details. When you next see them, give a round of applause to those who staffed the speaker rooms, helped with registration and connectivity issues, ran the mobile app, supplied photos and more.
